154: Mastering Sleep with Amanda Chocko

Hello friends! Today I’m talking about something I am lucky enough to not struggle with personally but which so many people do struggle with. And that is sleep. Sleep is my superpower, according to my husband, and I can fall asleep anywhere. Most people do not have this superpower, however, so every now and then I talk to a sleep expert here on the podcast because sleep is the absolute foundation for everything. If sleep isn’t dialled in, it’s so difficult to work on our relationships with food and our bodies. So today I’m pleased to introduce Amanda Chocko to the show to discuss sleep with us. Amanda is a nutritional therapy practitioner, sleep coach, and author of the book “Relax Sleep Thrive”.

Amanda is a nutritional therapy practitioner, sleep coach, and author of the book “Relax Sleep Thrive”.

Amanda encountered her own struggles with sleep during the pandemic when, in 2020, her insomnia became relentless and rendered her a zombie. That’s when she dug into the research and recorded everything she was learning to create a framework to fix her own sleep. Once she got to the root of her sleep troubles, she decided to write a book to help other people struggling with their own sleep and built a sleep coaching program around it. I talked to Amanda about what sleep challenges look like and why they happen, as well as why people who are struggling are also resistant to fighting their sleep issues. Amanda explains the science of sleep, how it’s linked to stress, and how schedules are important to maintaining good sleep. She shares advice on restructuring our days and routines to establish a healthy sleep schedule and addresses the questions of what to do if we can’t fall asleep and how to get back to sleep if we wake up too early. Amanda understands all the sleep issues - from sleep revenge to sleep debt and establishing a sleep schedule - and she works hard to assist everyone in overcoming chronic insomnia and reclaiming healthy sleep.
